Alpine vs. Mammoth: Choosing the Right Zen Tiny Home Model
Updated: 14 hours ago
Zen Tiny Homes builds two signature tiny homes on wheels: the Alpine and the Mammoth. Both are built to ANSI standards with bathrooms and real insulation. The big difference is size, and that changes who each home suits best.
THE ALPINE: A 20-FOOT HOME THAT LIVES LARGE
The Alpine is our 20-foot model. It is easy to place, easy to tow and a great fit for one or two people, a backyard ADU or a guest home. Its shorter length also makes delivery simpler on tight city lots and narrow driveways.
A fully finished Alpine includes:
A living area
A kitchen with a cooktop, sink and counter space
A full bathroom with a toilet
Loft space for sleeping or storage
THE ALPINE IS A GREAT FIT IF YOU WANT:
A backyard home that fits a typical San Diego lot
A smaller footprint and a simpler setup
A cozy home for one or two people
THE MAMMOTH: ROOM TO SPREAD OUT
The Mammoth is our larger tiny home on wheels, built up to about 30 feet long. It is designed for full-time living, couples who want more space, or small families. Those extra feet go toward the things people miss most in a small home: a real bedroom, laundry and storage.

The sample Mammoth floor plan includes:
A ground-floor bedroom with room for a queen bed, so there is no ladder to climb at night
A bathroom with a shower
Space for a washer and dryer
A living area that doubles as a second sleeping space, plus a desk and a loft
Mini-split heating and cooling
THE MAMMOTH IS A GREAT FIT IF YOU WANT:
A full-time home with a downstairs bedroom
Room for a home office, guests or kids
Laundry and more storage built in
WHAT BOTH MODELS SHARE
Built to ANSI standards on a trailer designed for the home
A bathroom with a toilet
Full insulation and a 50-amp electrical system
Your choice of finishes, colors and appliances
The same design, build and delivery process from start to finish
HOW TO CHOOSE
Measure your space. Where will the home sit? Length, access and setbacks may decide for you.
Count your people. One or two people often love the Alpine. Families and full-timers often prefer the Mammoth.
Think about stairs. If climbing to a loft every night is a deal breaker, the Mammoth's downstairs bedroom wins.
Check the rules. In the City of San Diego, a movable tiny house must be between 150 and 430 square feet. In unincorporated San Diego County, a tiny home on wheels must be under 430 square feet and no taller than 16 feet.
MAKE IT YOURS
Both models can be customized with your choice of finishes, appliances and layout tweaks. Want something different? We also build our Container home and fully custom tiny homes. See all of our options on the Models page.
PRICING
The Alpine comes as a stripped-down base model without cabinets, or fully finished. The Mammoth is quoted custom based on size, layout and finishes. A small deposit reserves your build.
